Enjoy a 2 hour breathtaking pontoon tour of the lagoon, 3 cenotes, Bird Island and the famous “Pirate Canal”.  Bring your suit and towel and swim in these magical waters for a while! After the tour you will step back in time at the iconic Fuerte de San Felipe, a sturdy 18th-century Spanish fortress built in 1733 to protect the shores of Laguna Bacalar from ruthless Caribbean pirates. Perched on a hill overlooking the famous “Lagoon of Seven Colors,” this national historic monument offers breathtaking panoramic views and a fascinating small museum packed with pirate artifacts, ancient weapons, maps, and stories of colonial trade, Maya heritage, and dramatic battles.

During this self guided tour, you’ll walk the ramparts, learn about the fort’s role in defending valuable logwood routes, and soak in the rich history that shaped this magical corner of the Yucatán. It’s the perfect quick yet memorable stop—combining culture, history, and stunning photo opportunities—before or after exploring the turquoise lagoon.

Departure:

Your party will depart from the Costa Maya port and travel approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes to our pontoon in Bacalar

Bacalar Boat Tour:

You and your Party will begin a 1.5 hour boat tour of the lagoon and its breathtaking views including cenotes and swimming areas.

Tour the Fortress:

You will have up to 45 minutes to explore the fortress and center of Bacalar.

Return to Port:

Enjoy a delicious grilled chicken meal with sides and a drink

Return to Port:

After eating you will return to Costa Maya port, stopping for a short time to try the pineapples at Pineapple Village.

How to find meeting spot at port

When you walk down the pier stay to the right to enter directly into the bus parking lot. Try not to enter the shopping area because its like a maze and hard to find the exit. After passing the busses walk away from the ship, down the sidewalk of the only road leading away from the ship. You will pass the first security booth in the middle of the road. That booth is fake and meant to mislead passengers into thinking that is the exit but you must walk 30 yards further to reach the second security booth and the real exit to Costa Maya port. There will be a crosswalk here and youll find many taxi drivers and tour guides holding whiteboards with customers names on them. Your driver will be holding a whiteboard with your name on it.
