This self-guided half-day tour from Costa Maya starts with a 50-minute ride to Chacchoben Mayan Ruins, where you’ll explore ancient pyramids and temples at your own pace for up to 2 hours or as little time as you like (Your driver will be waiting for you in the parking lot). Next, stop briefly in Pedro Santos , better known as Pineapple Village, to purchase honey pineapples and other local fruits, or to snap a few photos. Afterward, return directly to Costa Maya port, or choose to relax at a beach club with sun, sand, and optional amenities that is located a short mile and a half from the port entrance. Wear comfy shoes, bring sunscreen, and have cash for souvenirs or beach expenses.

Optional Guided Tour: Certified bilingual guides are available for an additional cost to provide in-depth historical and cultural insights. These guides will be stationed at the entrance to the ruins to offer their services

This map will lead you from the ship to our meeting spot, avoiding the shopping center by staying right at the end of the port to enter directly into the bus parking lot. Carefully cross the parking lot and follow the road and traffic leading away from the port just a short distance to the Costa Maya port entrance and exit. There your driver will be holding a whiteboard with your name on it.

Departure:

Meet at the designated meeting spot, a short walk from the Costa Maya cruise port. Stay to the left at the end of the pier to exit directly into the bus parking lot and avoid entering the maze of a shopping center. There will be plenty of time to explore the port after the tour.

Chacchoben Ruins:

Travel to Chacchoben (50 minutes): Enjoy a comfortable, air-conditioned ride through rural Mexico, passing two quaint towns. Explore the ruins for as long or as short of time as you like (2 hours max). Discover the ceremonial heart of Chacchoben, including Temple 24, Gran Basamento, and Temple One. Climb select structures (optional) for stunning jungle views and learn about the local flora and fauna, with chances to spot spider monkeys and exotic birds.

Mayan Fruit Stands:

Pedro Santos Stop (5-10 minutes): Visit the picturesque “Pineapple Village” to sample or purchase fresh honey pineapples and take photos of the vibrant local scenery.

Return:

Return to Costa Maya (50 minutes): Relax on the air-conditioned ride back to the port, or town ensuring a timely return for cruise schedules.

Town/Beach Club

Enjoy our recommended beach club, or choose to be dropped off anywhere in the town of Mahahual. About 15 minutes before you wish to return to port, please inform your waiter to notify your driver and you will be picked up at the beach club in the same place you were dropped off.

How to find meeting spot at port

When you walk down the pier stay to the right to enter directly into the bus parking lot. Try not to enter the shopping area because its like a maze and hard to find the exit. After passing the busses walk away from the ship, down the sidewalk of the only road leading away from the ship. You will pass the first security booth in the middle of the road. That booth is fake and meant to mislead passengers into thinking that is the exit but you must walk 30 yards further to reach the second security booth and the real exit to Costa Maya port. There will be a crosswalk here and youll find many taxi drivers and tour guides holding whiteboards with customers names on them. Your driver will be holding a whiteboard with your name on it.
